LEADERSHIP COURSE

The Course

Toc H has long been aware of the need to develop leaders for Australia’s future and has established a national Youth Leadership Training Course for young people.

The first course started in the late 1980s and the program has been widely acknowledged as an excellent opportunity for young people to develop the confidence and skills necessary for their future.

The course is conducted annually in various locations on a rotational basis. In 2009, it will be held at beautiful Mt. Tamborine, just inland from Queensland’s Gold Coast.

Applications are invited from young people aged 16-23 years with an interest in gaining a knowledge of leadership and how it is applied.

The Youth Leadership Training Course brings young people together with a common goal:  a better future for Australia.

 PROGRAM

The Training Program

Toc H Youth Leadership Training Courses are held over a 5 day period. The courses include presentations and discussions on a wide variety of topics directly related to leadership.

Topics are presented by professionals in their field and include:

  • What is leadership ?
  • Why do people follow a good leader?
  • Styles of Leadership.
  • Goal Setting.
  • Time Management.
  • Effective Communication.
  • Procedures for operating clubs, societies and other organisations.

Participants are presented with a Certificate of Achievement upon completion of the course.

An activities program will ensure there is ample opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the location and its natural setting.

Text Box: Toc H Australia President’s Message

The advent of the twenty-first century has heralded in a range of challenges that require the emergence of dedicated and strong leadership from the younger generations of our communities – society’s future leaders.

Whilst contemporary leadership needs to be based on the sound principles that have been tried and tested in the past, it must now be exercised in a manner that is both relevant and effective.

Leadership is a skill that must be learnt and developed.  Leadership courses such as the Toc H Youth Leadership Training Course provide future leaders with the opportunity to learn, practice and reflect on the principles of good leadership and on the required skills for addressing our twenty-first century challenges.

I commend this Course to those youth seeking a challenge, seeking opportunities to understand the principles of leadership and discover their leadership abilities, seeking to improve their communication and organisational skills and those wishing to extend their friendship networks to the national scale.

Major General Darryl Low Choy, AM, MBE, RFD, PhD    -     National President Toc H Australia

Toc H began during the First World War. In 1915 an Army Chaplain, The Reverend P.B. (Tubby) Clayton opened a centre in the small Belgian town of Poperinghe behind the lines of the Western Front. It was called Talbot House which was shortened to Toc H by Army signallers. The House provided respite from the horrors of war and had an atmosphere of physical and spiritual renewal.

Since that time, Toc H has developed into a worldwide movement which operates in practical ways at the community level, tackling a multitude of worthwhile activities in areas such as reconciliation, multiculturalism and religious co-operation.
