Tasmania

There have been 34 Toc H Branches in Tasmania since 1925 and most of these were in country areas. Country members contributed significantly to service in their local communities. These are some dates of note :
  • 1936

Toc H held its first Camp for Outback Children in Bellerive.

  • 1939

    Hobart hosted the Australian Festival.

  • 1943

Toc H members sent many food parcels to England.

  • 1982

Hobart hosted a National Workshop and following this several projects were launched: Lunch Club was formed; Disco for the handicapped was set up and there was support for Cosmos, an organisation which provided activities for handicapped people.

  • 1995

Toc H Tasmania hosted a very successful National Youth Leadership course.

There were some quite unusual projects in Tasmania – an Egg Week in Ulverstone resulted in collecting 200 dozen eggs for the local hospital, Saturday night socials for immigrants were held in Hobart, many members were involved in the Blind Cricketers’ Club, Meals on Wheels; concerts were organised in Homes and members in Hobart were involved in pioneering the Blood Transfusion Service. World War II impacted heavily on Toc H in Tasmania as well.
